Food & Drink

Nottinghamshire has a fine tradition of food & drink. The famous Bramley cooking apple has its origin in the minster town of Southwell. There are a variety of farmers markets with fresh local produce, award winning farm shops and a host of micro breweries, with one near White Horse Cottage which supplies the local inn in the village: The Red Lion.
There are a vast array of places to choose from when eating out with impressive teashops, gourmet restaurants, tradtional and high quality pub restaurants and a host of coffee shops all serving a variety of locally produced food and drink. If you would like fresh free range eggs during your stay at White Horse Cottage, we can provide you with a henhouse with your own hens producing fresh eggs for you each morning – contact us for further details.

Here are a few highlights of places locally that produce and supply their own food & drink:Stichelton is a classic blue cheese made from unpasteurised milk on the Welbeck Estate in Nottinghamshire.

GH Porter select the finest foods and have one of the biggest selections of dry cured free range smoked and unsmoked bacon in the area. Our dry cured bacon is, we believe, the best selection in the country. We smoke our products with wood chippings from sustainable grown wood stock. All the bacon is free range and bought locally, then dry cured ourselves for a minimum of three weeks. We also specialise in British cheeses, whose quality and diversity is growing all the time. We carry a large selection of teas, and roast all our own coffee
